Convertir en verde una construcción del siglo XIX

Following the new strong sustainable trend, a XIX Century colonial house is being remodeled in the City of San Juan de Puerto Rico. It is a 900 sq m. building that was abandoned and in poor condition.

One of the main features of the restoration process is the redesigning of its ceiling, as grass has been set up on it, thus creating a green space to relax and rest. Green roofs are used to regulate the thermal loads of the building, to avoid the urban heat island effect and to improve rain water drainage, thus slowing the water flowing into the network. Besides, the rooms have been turned into open spaces in order to take advantage of natural light.

Then, fluorescent low power consumption lighting systems have been installed throughout the house. Furthermore, existing materials in the house have been recycled in order to reduce environmental impact.

The house aims at becoming a modern and eco-friendly remodeled one by recycling the core and shell of the historic building.
