El hospital más verde del mundo se construirá en Estocolmo

Karolinska Solna University Hospital will be built in Stockholm. It is expected to be the world's most advanced hospital and aims at being awarded the sustainable architecture LEED Gold Certification. It has been designed by the architects Tengbom and will be developed by Skanska.

This magnificent hospital will focus on the patient and design based in research. Besides, it will seek to reduce the spread of infections and to promote quick recovery. This major university hospital aims at being the first one to be awarded the LEED Gold Certification, as well as the Gold Standard of the Swedish certification system Miljöklassad Byggnad.

Energy efficiency will play an important role in this new hospital, as it will use half the power used by the former university hospital. It will operate under minimal environmental impact, carbon neutrality and sustainable and recyclable materials by means of renewable sources. Lighting will operate by means of switches taking advantage of natural light, thus saving energy. The facility will also have a ventilation system in order to improve indoor air quality.

It is designed to last for at least 100 years and to implement the latest advanced technology. It is expected that construction would begin this year and that the first patient would be admitted by the end of 2015.
