The world’s largest chain of hamburger fast food restaurants has opened the first eco-restaurant in Pilar, Province of Buenos Aires, Argentina.

McDonald’s new innovation has implemented rational and efficient water use standards, which have already been implemented in other international McDonald’s restaurants. This new eco-restaurant is set up in the Kilometer 50 of Pamanericana Highway (Pilar exit). Besides, this new facility offers an amazing wind power unit (wind turbine) in order to produce wind power.

In the aftermath of the earthquake that struck Haiti on January 12th, the idea to rebuild  housing in a sustainable manner is being analyzed.

The New Mexican Architect Michael Reynolds and two developers will travel to Haiti in order to analyze the land condition and decide on what could be done to help the devastated country. Reynolds has developed Earthship, self-sufficient and earthquake proof eco-houses. Recycled materials are used to build these houses, especially old car tires filled with rammed earth, which are used in work foundations.

A sustainable house project has been designed in France. Among its many features, it can be highlighted that it has almost all been built with pre-manufactured materials, that is, almost wet materials free.

The French Architecture Office Karawitz Architecture has developed a passive bamboo house in Bessancourt, near Paris, France. Under passive house energy efficiency standards, the side of the house facing north has been closed in order to reduce heat loss and the one facing the south offers an open design in order to take advantage of sunlight.

In Puerto Rico, a XIX Century house is being rebuilt under sustainable standards.

Following the new strong sustainable trend, a XIX Century colonial house is being remodeled in the City of San Juan de Puerto Rico. It is a 900 sq m. building that was abandoned and in poor condition.
